Flormar Deluxe Shine Gloss Lipstick - Vellvette Box, May 2013

Flormar Deluxe Shine Gloss Lipstick – Vellvette Box, May 2013

  • Where did I find this? In my May 2013 Vellvette Box.
  • Price Mentioned : INR 700

  • First Reaction: Initially, while looking at it, I was quite excited, Like yay! Another Lipstick! (I love em. I have hoards!) The packaging looked sturdy. And it looked like it would survive bumpy rides in my hand bag.
  • Color: I hated it! It is a vivid Orange with Red undertones. Now, this would look lovely on someone with a fair complexion, on an NC 42 me, it just looked skanky. Take a look.

Wait, what? Damn, it photographs very well. Let me show you another picture.

Now, that is more like it.

Getting down to business –

What is Working for it:

  1.  Color:  Vivid. If you are looking for something Neon or something that will stand out, this is the one for you.
  2.  Texture: Gloopy, like a melted lipstick. Not too sticky. Light when worn.
  3.  Glossy, high shine. Really reflects well.
  4.  Good color pay off. Very Pigmented.
  5.  Smell : None.
  6.  Photographed very well.

Not working for it:

  1.  Texture: It melted. Need I say more?
  2. Application: Is streaky. You definitely need a lip brush to apply it or you need to pat it down with your fingers
  3.  It transfers everywhere!
  4. After a while, the color settles in lines.

Final Verdict : Ohh this is a tough one. I love the vivid color and the glossiness. But hate that it transfers everywhere and that it settles in the fine lines after some time. This one is for those days where you feel bold and adventurous and need something a little out there.

I am going to give it 3.5 / 5.

Manage your curly hair!!

Note: This post is by Sasha Desai. Curly-hair care taker extraordinaire!

curly hair problems

Aha, we are going to tell you our way of fixing those amazing curls!

This post is for curly girls so if you have straight hair, this post will probably be useless to you.

Curly girls go through a special kind of war with their hair. It’s a bit like Pandora’s box. But fear not, fellow CGs! I come bearing the long lost ingredient. Hope.

Curly hair, dog, cute, thebeachbums

He is cute! Curly hair and all!

Curly hair will always require a little extra help from time to time but at the same time its versatile. So don’t worry, girls. I’ll post a lot of hairstyle ideas, damage control tips and basically tell you how to tame that mane.  For my first post, I’ll walk you through my hair routine.

Firstly, I oil my hair at least 45 minutes before I wash it.  I used to use a combination of Almond hair oil and a few drops of tea tree oil. I have a dandruff problem and this potion used to keep the flaking under control. But recently I’ve switched to virgin coconut oil. Pay special attention to the virgin part. This has been working wonders on my dandruff so far. I really believe that oils are the best way to keep your hair moisturized and healthy. Especially curly hair as it needs a lot of moisture.

While I’m in the shower I make sure to wash my hair with a small blob of shampoo, about the size of a Re.1 coin.  I shampoo only my scalp while vigorously rubbing with my hands and I wash it off quickly.  I don’t like to use a lot of shampoo because I need at least a little residue of the oil to stay in my hair. It keeps it from frizzing up. I live in a very humid climate and short of using a bucket full of hair products, this is the best way.

I use a lot of conditioner on my hair and I make sure to leave it in for about three minutes. While the conditioner is in, I untangle my hair very carefully with a wide toothed comb, working from the ends, upward.

Next I wash everything off and scrunch my hair to get out most of the water. I wrap it in a towel while I get dressed.

I usually let it air-dry but if I’m in a hurry my routine changes drastically. I put in quite a bit of product (mousse or leave -in conditioner) while my hair is still wet and I dry it with a hairdryer that has a diffuser attachment.

That’s it. My hair is set for the next three or four days. I don’t recommend washing curly hair often as it gets rid of the precious scalp oils that give curls definition. 🙂

Clinique Chubby Stick

Now here is an alliteration, the Clinique Chubby Stick in Chunky Cherry! Also quite a tongue twister! Now I am a huge lip product enthusiast and

have tonnes of products in this category. I love to try them all! Especially lip balms and lippies with a sheer tint.  Somehow, I believe they strike just the right note on casual.  Anyway, I live in Goa, where dressing up in the heat is not possible. You can feel your make up melting off, the minute you step out into the sun. Nightmare!

Home conditions :

Weather –  Extremely hot, humid weather – nightmare in the summer, pleasant in the winter

Lips – Bow shaped, dual toned, need light moisturization

Personal style – very chic and laid back.

Description – Clinique Chubby Stick

Chubby Stick Moisturizing Lip Color Balm is a lip treatment with sheer color that relieves dry, cracked lips and provides immediate moisturization. The unique pencil-style applicator provides easy to apply sheer soft lip color and rolls up for ease of use.

Review :

The moment I saw this product on the shelves, web reviews, I was massively excited. A tinted lip balm, with a sheer color looked exactly like something I was looking for. However, the minute the package was handed to me, I was equally disappointed. The box looked tiny and much smaller than the pictures splashed all over the net. Also, the first time I swatched it, the color was too sheer. However, I decided to test it out again(since it was gifted to me) and as soon as I discovered the color was buildable, all was right in the world again. You have to swipe it three or four times to get a satisfactory color. However bear in mind, you don’t get a lipstick like shade, you get a sheer, highly pigmented lip gloss like shade.

Clinique Chubby Stick in Chunky Cherry – Swatches

Application – On application, it feels light and non-sticky. The texture is luxurious and quite frankly one of the best I have used.

Moisturizing – For the texture being so light, this stick is surprisingly moisturizing.  It lasts 2-3 hours on a cold winter’s day and is one of the longest I have used in tinted lip balms.

Color – Sheer barely there color on the first swipe. But the color is buildable. Decent enough for a tinted lip balm.

Packaging – Just love the twist-up pencil look. Just tuck it in you back and go-go-go!

Thumbs Down for –

Price – Its pricey for INR 1025

Color – Even thought it can be swiped to get a decent color, it could still be more pigmented.

Final Verdict – 4/5

It is one of the best moisturizing tinted lip balm, and has decent enough color.
